WASHINGTON, Nov. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ICx Technologies (NASDAQ: ICXT) , a developer of advanced technology solutions for homeland and military security, announced today that it has won a $1.57 million contract for expanding the Reversible Lane Control System (RLCS) on the Interstate 15 corridor in San Diego, Calif. ICx Transportation, a business unit of ICx Technologies and developer of Intelligent Transportation Systems, will provide enhanced technologies for the expanded Managed Lanes section of the I-15 corridor, a four-lane car pool (HOV) facility occupying the freeway median along I-15 in San Diego -- allowing the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) to dynamically adjust roadway capacity to match travel demands and emergency conditions. ICx will include the integration of its Cameleon Intelligent Traffic System, which is advanced control software for supporting lane control systems, dynamic message signs and video control capability.

HERNDON, Va., Nov. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- EDS announced today that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) awarded EDS an $11.6 million contract to help the department develop and provide personal identity verification (PIV) card solutions to all VA employees, affiliates and contractors in accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12). Under the Personal Identity Verification Deployment and Operations/Maintenance (PIV DOM) contract, EDS will support the VA objective to issue PIV cards for authentication and identity verification services in a commonly accepted identification card recognized across the federal government. EDS will support the implementation and deployment of PIV cards to more than 200 VA Medical and Benefit sites nationwide.
American Superconductor gets federal contract
American Superconductor Corp. announced today that it has received a Department of Homeland Security contract for a project that aims to improve Manhattan's power delivery network. American Superconductor, or AMSC, is a Devens company focused on energy technologies. The company said it is working on Project Hydra, which focuses on the development and deployment of AMSC's "secure super grids" technology in the power delivery network in Manhattan operated by Consolidated Edison Company of New York Inc. According to AMSC, this technology is a proprietary, system-level 'smart grid' solution that utilizes high temperature superconductor power cables and ancillary controls to deliver up to 10 times more power through the grid while at the same time suppressing power surges, or fault currents, that can disrupt service.
